Contributions to this database - e-accessions and plant specimens - are welcomed. UQARC is an ongoing research project at the University of Queensland. Interested researchers should contact the project team to discuss their accessions before preparing their material following the standards outlined here. Contributors acknowledge that, once included in the database, all contributions will be made publicly available in accordance with the site’s Creative Commons license (see Terms of use) .

At present e-accessions are being prepared for wood/wood charcoal and seeds/fruits. Other fossil categories may be added in the future. We are developing a web-based accession portal for UQARC contributors, but currently are using spreadsheets to collect data. Please follow the following steps.

Step 1: Complete UQARC Accession sheet

Enter the taxonomic, collection and origin information for your specimens on the attached UQARC Accession Sheet (Excel). The sheet has details about the conventions we follow, including use of the GRIN taxonomy for naming, though names assigned using local floras should also be recorded. Details are on the READ ME worksheet. Some fields (hashed) are to be filled out by the UQARC team. Please note, all contributors will need to specify a verification level flag (as defined by Herbarium Information Standards and Protocols for Interchange of Data - Version 3 [HISPID3]) for each accession donated to the database. They are as follows:

Step 2: Complete the record sheet for your material

Download and enter the details for your accessions, using the specified criteria, in one of the following material categories: wood/wood charcoal or seeds and fruits. Please contact UQARC for further details about the descriptive criteria on the contacts page.

Wood and wood charcoal

All contributors of wood and wood charcoal reference materials will need to present their data in the attached pro forma (FileMaker, Excel File) . Descriptions of anatomical features should follow those outlined by the International Association of Wood Anatomists, in particular:

For Hardwoods: E.A. Wheeler, P. Baas, P.E. Gasson (eds.) (1989) IAWA list of microscopic features for hardwood identification with an Appendix for non-anatomical information. IAWA Bulletin 10(3):219-332.

For softwoods: Richter, H.G., D. Grosser, I. Heinz, and P.E. Gasson (eds.) (2004) IAWA list of microscopic features for softwood identification. IAWA Journal 25(1):1-70.

Contributors should also include images (preferably SEM images or high quality light microscope images) of each of the three anatomical planes (transverse, tangential, and radial) which contain the distinguishing anatomical features of the taxon. These images should be accompanied by an annotation of the anatomical features present in the image. Images should not exceed 1.25MB in size and are acceptable in JPEG or TIF format.

Seeds and fruits

All contributors of seed, nut and fruit reference materials will need to present their data in the attached pro forma ( Excel File). The fields should be filled out, where relevant as follows:
